Monterrey vs Liverpool Match Preview
Liverpool travel to Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup clash against Monterrey as the busy schedule continues, coming into the match with most of their first-team roster just a day after their U23 side takes on Aston Villa in League Cup Quarter-finals as Jurgen Klopp’s side falls victims to their own success.
Reds have been furious lately and the weekend win over Watford (2-0) was their 12th in 13 outings since late October, only seeing Napoli interrupt the streak in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. In-form Mo Salah made the difference with a brace on Saturday, which was his fourth goal in three games, and he’ll surely be very motivated to lead the lineup on the day as well.
Monterrey, on the other hand, have to look for an upset against the heavy favourites to lift the trophy for the first time ever. While they have struggled early in the campaign, we’ve seen them in fine form lately and Antonio Mohamed’s men will be no easy rivals to beat – led by Spurs’ flop Vincent Janssen and in-form Rogerio Funes Mori (who bagged seven goals in five games since early November).
Los Rayados have beat Al Sadd (3-2) in a five-goal thriller on Saturday in what felt like a comfortable win and they’ll now want to build on it. They beat Necaxa twice in four days beforehand and will certainly be in a good mood once again, despite struggling to keep clean sheets along the way.
We do feel Liverpool will be too much for the Mexican rivals to handle, though, and we’ll now stick with them to make their way to the Final in an exciting contest. We’ll thus go for Liverpool to win and a Yes on Both teams to score, which comes at 7/5 with Paddy Power.
We still hope for a comfortable winning margin on the day and we feel Reds will be able to show off in the final third. With that in mind, we’re also backing Liverpool to score Over 2.5 Goals FT, which comes at 5/6 with bet365 and has caught the eye of many in the know already.
