Monaco vs Metz Match Preview

Monaco’s awful season sunk to another new low at the weekend and they must try to bounce back quickly against second-tier club Metz.

Thierry Henry has failed to significantly revive the fortunes of the fallen French champions of two years ago since his October appointment, and there is no question they are now in a very serious relegation battle.

The latest hammer blow was a 5-1 home defeat to Strasbourg – and recent signing Cesc Fabregas could already be forgiven for wishing he was back on the Chelsea bench!

The one positive for Henry and Co has been the domestic cups, with Monaco having scraped through their opening tie of each by 1-0 scorelines and then beating Rennes on penalties to reach the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Now they aim to get past Metz in the Coupe de France, with their opponents having been relegated from the top flight last season but making a very good job so far of going straight back up with a five-point lead at the head of the Ligue 2 table.

It could just be that the reduced pressure in the cup competitions is suiting Monaco and although their home record this term is even worse than their away form (see stats above) they are backed to grind out another win that may just help to build some confidence.
