Monaco vs Caen Match Preview

Monaco host Caen for their Matchday 30 clash on Sunday as they return to Ligue 1 after the International break hoping to pick it up where they left off, having beat Lille (0-1) in a very narrow contest at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and extended a seven-match unbeaten streak.

Les Monegasques have seen a very underwhelming campaign but January signings proved fruitful as they seem more confident, despite a long way to climb the table and little time on their clock. They’ve been rock-solid defensively and Leonardo Jardim will want to build on such a character, with an obvious need for points late in the campaign.

Indeed, they have escaped the immediate danger zone despite not climbing the table just yet and we feel Caen will be a chance to boost such a tally, with visitors coming into the match on the back of a four-match losing streak and just two points in last ten Ligue 1 outings.

SMC have thus long been one of the favourites to see relegation this term and while they’ll surely be very motivated to snatch anything for the fixture at Stade Louis II, we feel Monaco have what it takes to send them further into the chasm – as they struggle to score goals or capitalize on them when they find the net.

We will thus stick with Monaco to untangle a narrow contest with confidence at the back, as we go for a Home win to Nil at 21/20 with bet365. We have seen them rock-solid at the back over the past couple of weeks and we now hope for more of the same after the break.

We don’t feel we’re in for a very one-sided contest, though, and we still expect a strong challenge for survival from the visitors.
