Liverpool’s 100% record in the Premier League this season is in stark contrast to their results in other competitions – which they are aiming to improve in this Carabao Cup tie.

Setting a ferocious pace at the top of the Premier League table with six wins out of six, the Reds have also lifted the European Super Cup this term – but in that game, the FA Community Shield and their Champions League opener away to Napoli they failed to win.

There are extenuating circumstances for all three of those, so it may not be the case that Liverpool are much more focused on the Premier League than anything else or that manager Jurgen Klopp is not rotating his team effectively. Yet this game will be an interesting test.

It’s highly likely that Klopp will give minutes to several players who have not featured much this season, for instance Xherdan Shaqiri, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren, all of whose futures look to be away from Anfield barring a dramatic transformation in fortunes.

MK Dons have already had one Carabao Cup victory they will have really enjoyed this term, against their fierce rivals AFC Wimbledon, while the other team they beat were another rival of theirs in League One, Southend United.

However, Paul Tisdale’s side have lost their latest two home matches 1-0 and while they will be bang up for this one, it is hard to see them having any joy against the European champions even if the big stars are rested.
