Minnesota United vs Philadelphia Union Match Preview
Philadelphia Union have failed to capitalise on a run of three consecutive home matches and may just appreciate a change of scenery on this trip to Minnesota.
But with the hosts having proven to be rock solid at the Allianz Field for most of this season, a share of the spoils could well be the outcome on Sunday.
The Union are still flying high towards the top of the Eastern Conference standings despite having collected only two points from a possible nine at home over the last two weeks.
However, Jim Curtin’s side are not bad on their travels (see stats above) and have pulled off victories in Cincinnati and Toronto this term, which suggests they will be more than a handful here for the team coached by former Everton and Stoke City forward Adrian Heath.
Minnesota’s defensive record at their Saint Paul base has been excellent since a 3-3 draw with New York City and they are on course to reach the end-of-season play-offs in the Western Conference for the first time in their three-year history.
This looks unlikely to be a goalfest based on the Loons’ recent home results and we think the teams could, to an extent, cancel each other out, with a point apiece being our idea of the likely outcome.
