Minnesota United vs Columbus Crew Match Preview
Minnesota United host Columbus Crew for their weekend clash in search of their first win over the rivals ever but they can boast no real consistency lately, coming off a 2-0 loss at Chicago Fire and only seeing one win in six outings since early April.
Loons have been more solid at Allianz Field, though, and we’ve seen them show off as a tough nut to crack despite a tough schedule. They’ve narrowly beaten DC United (1-0) and held Houston Dynamo (0-0), New York City (3-3), LA Galaxy (0-0) as well as Seattle Sounders (1-1) to draws along the way.
Columbus Crew have seen an even more troubled spell of form as they suffered six losses in their last seven outings with just a single win (3-1 over LA Galaxy) bagged along the way. Caleb Porter’s men sit 7th in Eastern Conference but have a lot to prove if they’re to retain the spot – with Chicago and New York Red Bulls breathing down their necks.
Crew have struggled to score goals on the road and the one scored in a 3-1 loss at DC United earlier in May was only the first in four away games. They’ve seen Philadelphia (3-0), Montreal Impact (1-0), and Houston Dynamo (2-0) all secure points and it’s now tough to make a case for them to end the streak.
We’ll thus back Minnesota to prove their worth in front of the home fans and we’ll go for a Home win at 6/5 with bet365, which seems great value seeing the Columbus Crew’s woes of recent.
However, we feel Loons will have to base such a success on a tough defensive approach before anything else too, as we now back them to keep a clean sheet at 23/10 with Paddy Power. They’ve been rock-solid at this ground and this looks like more than just a lively longshot.
