Millwall vs Brighton Match Preview
Brighton have not reached an FA Cup semi-final since 1983, when they were runners-up to Manchester United, but have been given a fine chance of ending that long wait this season.
Ironically, it was United who also ended the Seagulls’ hopes of FA Cup glory in the quarter-finals exactly 12 months ago on a snowy night at Old Trafford where Brighton lost 2-0.
But Chris Hughton’s side have been done a better turn by the draw this time as they face the lowest-ranked team among the eight remaining, albeit at the intimidating venue of The Den.
Everton have already lost at this ground during Millwall’s run to this stage, so Brighton cannot go there thinking this tie will be straightforward. Plus, they are usually a better team at home in the Premier League, although they won 2-1 at Crystal Palace last weekend.
Millwall, meanwhile, have a strong FA Cup pedigree over the last 16 years having reached a final, a semi and now two quarter-finals in that period, during which they have also won two League One play-off finals at Wembley.
If we had to nail our colours to a particular mast here we would have to side with Brighton to make it an all-Premier League semi-final line-up, but Millwall are capable of causing problems and we would not be surprised if extra time or even penalties were required.
