Middlesborough vs Tottenham Predictions
Middlesbrough are performing below expectations in the Championship this season. Having missed out on the play-offs last year, the club decided to go in a completely different direction following the exit of ex-boss Tony Pulis, hiring the inexperienced Jonathan Woodgate, who of course appeared for Tottenham during his playing days. The plan had appeared to have back-fired at first, but form has started to pick up of late.
Having been in the relegation zone at one stage, the Teessiders are now up to 16th place in the table following a run of four consecutive league wins against some very stern opposition in the Championship in recent games. Now, attention turns to the FA Cup, a trophy that Boro have never managed to win before. Can Woodgate continue the improving atmosphere at the Riverside Stadium by earning a win here at 23/5 with Unibet?
Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been a real rollercoaster so far. Indeed, their whole of 2019 was interesting, with dreadful league form at times perhaps being masked by a phenomenal run to the Champions League final in the first half of the year. As the poor league form continued in the early stages of the next campaign however, Mauricio Pochettino found himself out of a job to be replaced by former Chelsea and Manchester United man Jose Mourinho.
After picking up some decent results in his first few weeks in charge, the Lilywhites have started to struggle again in recent weeks, with the defeat to Southampton on New Year’s Day meaning that Spurs have managed just one win in their last five Premier League outings. Mourinho is known for his ability to win trophies though so he may have his eyes set on the FA Cup this season. His side are priced at 4/6 here with Ladbrokes.
Middlesbrough seem to be playing with confidence at the moment after a dreadful start to the campaign and they may fancy their chances in this game. Spurs still seem to be getting to grips with the plan that their new manager is trying to implement and what’s more, they will be without some key players following injury blows to Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele. We think there’s value in backing Boro on the double chance market at 5/4 with Unibet.
We do fancy goals in this one. Boro have found the net at least once in each of their last seven matches and they now head into this game to take on a Tottenham side that have the joint-worst defensive record in the Premier League. Even without Harry Kane though, the Lilywhites should have enough firepower through the likes of Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura to get on the scoresheet here, so both teams to score is our second recommended bet at 8/11 with William Hill.
