Middlesbrough vs Reading Match Preview
Middlesbrough saw their play-off hopes take a huge hit on Easter Monday as they went down 3-0 at Nottingham Forest. It put to an end a run of three straight victories and leaves them depending on others around them. They sit seventh level with Derby and above Bristol City and both have a game in hand though these two sides are facing each other Saturday.
At the Riverside, Boro have won back-to-back home matches each of which ended in the same 1-0 scoreline. In fact, each of the last four at this ground have ended 1-0 with Boro losing two and winning two. Just two of the last 13 here have gone over 2.5 goals and not one has gone over 3.5.
Reading picked up two points at Easter but with their both opponents in the top eight then they can be happy with that. The goalless draw at home to West Brom on Monday confirmed their safety and stretched their unbeaten run to four. Jose Gomez has done a good job since coming in and it will be interesting to see what he can do with a whole summer behind him.
Away from the Madejski Stadium, the Royals have won none of their last four but three of these have finished all-square. Each of the last three on the road and four of the last five on the road have seen both teams find the back of the net. The Berkshire outfit have scored the opener in each of their last three and four of their last five on their travels.
Boro are a short price to win this as they must do so but we think a relaxed Royals side can cause them problems here. Backing them with a 1.0 start on the Asian Handicap looks the bet as even if they lose the hosts are not exactly blowing teams away. We also think the home team needing to win should make for an open second-half and would back this to be the highest scoring half.
