Martinique vs Mexico Match Preview
Mexico outclassed both Cuba (7-0) and Canada (3-1) in their first two Group A outings and they now travel to Charlotte, North Carolina for their clash against outsiders Martinique on the back of a six-match winning streak across competitions, hoping to keep it up and retain consistency ahead of the knockout stages despite already securing a top 2 spot.
El Tri have been in great form in the final third and while it was obvious early in Gold Cup, we’ve also seen them beat Chile (3-1), Paraguay (4-2), Venezuela (3-1), Ecuador (3-2) in high-scoring clashes since March and Gerardo Martino will obviously want to keep it up.
Martinique can hardly cope and it’s been obvious going into the competition despite a four-match winning streak behind them, as they suffered a thrashing 4-0 loss to Canada on the opening day of the campaign. Still, they bounced back against Cuba (0-3) and will now hope to make any impact.
Les Matinino have been scoring goals on the regular but doing so against Mexico should prove much more of a challenge, which has us expecting a one-sided clash despite Martino possibly sending out a rotated line-up with little to play for on the day.
We will thus back El Tri to bag the points with confidence and going for Mexico to win to Nil at 1/2 with William Hill really feels like buying money for old rope. They’ve been in top shape and it’s really hard to see it go any other way at this point.
While we do feel we’re still in for goals and should be in for excitement at Bank of America Stadium, Mexico have little to play for and we’ll thus stick with Under 4.5 Goals FT at 3/5 with Novibet, which seems like a solid approach for those keeping faith we’ll see a clean sheet.
