Marseille vs Lille Match Preview
Lille have made the top 3 cut in a busy contest at the top of the Ligue 1 table, beating Bordeaux (3-0) in front of the home fans and ending a five-match winless streak across competitions. They held off Valencia (1-1) in Champions League beforehand with a last-gasp equalizer and building on the performances on the road will be crucial.
LOSC still look for their first away win this term, though, and getting it at Orange Velodrome will be no easy task. They’ve held off Rennes (1-1) and Nice (1-1) in late September but saw the streak ended with a disappointing trip to Toulouse (2-1) where a stoppage-time goal from Jose Fonte proved nothing but a consolation.
Marseille will now hope to capitalize on such woes on the rivals’ end and jump them on the league table with a win on Saturday, now sitting 7th but just two points behind. They have a busier schedule on their hands with a Coupe de la Ligue trip to Monaco on Wednesday, though, and struggles for consistency could prove worrying.
Les Phoceens have seen a thrashing 4-0 loss on Sunday and saw their defensive instability emphasized once again by in-form Icardi and Mbappe. They have been tougher here and get a four-match unbeaten streak to build on – a streak they’ll be desperate to garner despite a tougher schedule to follow.
We do feel Lille will be very tough to outgun, though, and we’ll now stick our necks out for the visitors to snatch a point! Going for a Draw at 23/10 with Paddy Power thus feels like more than just a lively longshot at this point and we hope to see shared spoils in Marseille.
We should be in for goals and we thus also hope to see them on both ends. We’re thus backing a Yes on Both teams to score, which comes at 17/20 with William Hill and looks like the best approach to the fixture at this point.
