Manchester United vs Wolves Match Preview
New Portuguese signings will be a theme as Manchester United and Wolves resume familiar rivalry locked together on points in the chase for European football via the Premier League.
Both clubs splashed the cash this week before the transfer deadline, United spending £50million to finally snare Bruno Fernandes after protracted negotiations while Wolves brought in his former Sporting Lisbon team-mate Daniel Podence for £17million.
The duo are expected to make their debuts, be it from the start or more likely off the bench, as their clubs meet for the sixth time since March having been paired together in the FA Cup for the last two seasons, each progressing once at the expense of the other.
This time around it was United who prevailed in an Old Trafford replay and they will hope to go all the way in that competition, having just missed out in the Carabao Cup despite a 1-0 semi-final second-leg victory away to their neighbours Manchester City on Wednesday.
But of more immediate concern is Premier League points and trying to stay in touch with Chelsea in the quest for a top-four finish – that would mean Champions League football and represent progress from the Europa League in which both clubs are competing this season.
In terms of where these teams currently are, there has been very little between them in this campaign both overall and in their head-to-head meetings and so we think Wolves can go one better than in the FA Cup recently and bag an Old Trafford draw.
