Manchester United vs Watford Match Preview

This season has been a real rollercoaster ride at Old Trafford. After starting the campaign under Jose Mourinho following a second-placed finish last season, the Red Devils did not look at the races and appeared to be out of the race for a top four finish when they sacked the Portuguese boss in December and replaced him with former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis whilst looking for a new boss.

The Norwegian however appeared to instil a new found confidence in his players and they have performed much better in the following months, famously overcoming PSG in the Champions League and now sitting just one place and two points off the top four. After back-to-back defeats in their last two games however, including an FA Cup Quarter Final defeat to Wolves last time out, Solskjaer will be desperate for three points here at odds of 42/100 withWilliam Hill as he fights for the job on a permanent basis.

It’s easy to forget over the course of a Premier League season how perceptions of a team can change but Watford have confounded all of the critics this season. At the start of the campaign pundits and fans alike were expecting a difficult campaign for the Hertfordshire side as they struggled for form under Javi Gracia in the latter stages of the 2017/2018 season after the Spaniard came in to replace Marco Silva, now of Everton.

However, the Hornets find themselves flying high in the top half of the Premier League table and although they haven’t been able to keep up the kind of form that saw them in the top four for the majority of the first half of the season, they remain difficult to overcome and make the trip to Old Trafford having lost just two of their last eight. Those two defeats came away to Liverpool and Manchester City though and like those two sides, United should prove too strong here, hence odds of 15/2 for the away win with Bet365.

United may look much better going forward under Solskjaer but they’ve left a lot to be desired defensively of late. The Red Devils have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches in all competitions, despite winning three of those games. Watford always possess an attacking threat through the boisterous Troy Deeney and tricky Gerard Deulofeu so we’re backing the home win and both teams to score bet here at 15/8 with William Hill.

Romelu Lukaku has come in for criticism at times this season but he still leads the Premier League goalscoring charts for the Red Devils with 12 goals to his name so far. Two of those goals came in the comeback win over Southampton in his side’s last home fixture in the league and indeed he has now racked up six goals in his last four outings in all competitions for his club. We’re backing the Belgian forward to score at any time in this one at 6/5 with Bet365.
