Manchester United vs Southampton Match Preview
Southampton have a good recent record at Old Trafford and will be hoping Manchester United’s lengthy injury list helps them to continue it on Saturday.
In their last five visits to this famous stadium, Saints have achieved two 1-0 wins and a couple of low-scoring draws. During those victories they restricted United to a total of just a single shot on target, while in last season’s goalless stalemate Jack Stephens and Wesley Hoedt produced a series of valuable blocks to keep the clean sheet intact.
United fans will be hoping their team fare much better when hosting Southampton with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge this time rather than David Moyes, Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho, although home form has not been the Norwegian’s main strength so far during his encouraging interim spell at the helm.
But injuries have hit the Red Devils hard recently with Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial all sidelined, in addition to a few of the fringe players, while a watching brief is also being kept on Marcus Rashford’s fitness.
None of the last three matches at Old Trafford have resulted in a victory for Solskjaer’s side and the winless run may just be extended here.
