Manchester United vs Norwich City Match Preview
Manchester United have descended into crisis mode again and nothing less than victory over Norwich City will be enough to assuage the criticism of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian is under pressure once more after his team’s latest blip, primarily due to the defeats away to Arsenal and, even more painfully, 3-1 at home to Manchester City in this week’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg when United capitulated before half time.
In terms of restoring some confidence, a match at home to the Premier League’s bottom club, Norwich, should be ideal. But the Canaries won on their last visit to Old Trafford and, within their last four away league games, they have beaten Everton and drawn with Leicester, so it may not be entirely straightforward.
Plus, United are struggling with injuries and illness, £80million defender Harry Maguire looking set to miss the next few weeks due to a hip problem, and other players are simply showing nothing to suggest they can contribute towards cementing Solskjaer in his job.
Still, even though Norwich won 4-2 at Championship play-off hopefuls Preston in the FA Cup last week, this is still a game the Red Devils should win.
Before the Manchester derby defeat, United had been generally reliable at home and we think they will bag three points here, but after a highly disappointing start to 2020 it may well turn out to be hard work.
