Manchester United vs Leeds United Match Preview
The War of the Roses takes place Down Under as these fierce north of England rivals do battle for the first time in nearly eight years in the Australian city of Perth.
Manchester United will be the more accustomed to the unfamiliar surroundings for they have already played a pre-season match at the Optus Stadium, winning 2-0 against hosts Perth Glory on Saturday with goals from Marcus Rashford and young midfielder Jimmy Garner.
On the same day, Leeds made their long journey from Yorkshire – but with only half of their first-team squad. Manager Marcelo Bielsa has sent only 16 players to Australia for this match and also a second fixture against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday.
Bielsa himself is flying in at the last minute and the remaining players have stayed in Europe as friendly matches have also been arranged for them this week in the very different locations of Tadcaster and Cagliari!
Leeds should provide a sterner test for the Red Devils than Perth Glory, who set up extremely defensively and challenged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team to break them down – which they did in the second half, landing our best bet on the match at odds of 3/1 (Double Result).
Solskjaer ought to have been happy with how his two entirely different XIs in each half performed and with his starting line-up likely to be pushed up to an hour’s action here, they are fancied to get the better of Leeds quite comfortably.
