Manchester United vs Everton Match Preview
Duncan Ferguson made a massive instant impact as Everton’s caretaker manager last weekend – and tries to continue the magic against Manchester United, whom he haunted in his playing days.
The big Scot had a strong goalscoring record against the Red Devils and will hope to pass on some of his good luck to current Toffees forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, both of whom were on the scoresheet in the 3-1 home victory over Chelsea.
That was Ferguson’s first game in charge since stepping into the hotseat vacated by Marco Silva’s sacking and if he can gain another positive result at Old Trafford, it would only boost his chances of getting the job on a full-time basis – and this venue has always been kind to fiery Scottish managers named Ferguson!
However, the most famous example of that description is likely to be sat in the stands hoping to watch Manchester United maintain their solid recent form, comprising three excellent wins in a row against Tottenham, Manchester City and AZ Alkmaar.
The worry for United fans is that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have yet to make it four victories on the spin this term, or even since their manager’s brilliant start just under a year ago – largely, you sense, because their young team is still a work in progress.
Everton’s success against Chelsea was one in which the shackles appeared to be thrown off after Silva’s departure and with the confidence gained from that success, they are backed to hold United and boost their interim manager’s job prospects.
