Manchester City vs Watford Match Preview
Quique Sanchez Flores will need his Watford team to produce the same spirit as in their second half against Arsenal last week if they are to be competitive against Manchester City.
Watford trailed 2-0 at the break when hosting the Gunners, but then came a rip-roaring 45 minutes in which they levelled it up at 2-2, ended up having almost 30 attempts at goal and could have won it at the end when Abdoulaye Doucoure shot tamely from a great position.
It was a highly encouraging display for Sanchez Flores in his first game since returning to the Hornets in place of a fellow Spaniard, Javi Gracia, as he tries to lift the club off the bottom of the Premier League table following their surprisingly poor start to the campaign.
But the popular manager is facing a tremendously difficult opening to his second spell in charge as he now takes his side to the home of the Premier League champions, who completed the English domestic treble last term when they doled out a 6-0 thumping to Watford in the FA Cup Final.
City are not invincible, as Norwich showed last week with a shock 3-2 win, especially as Pep Guardiola is having to send out a makeshift central defence as two of his three orthodox senior options in that position are injured for the next few weeks at least.
But Fernandinho coped well enough alongside Nicolas Otamendi in the midweek 3-0 Champions League win away to Shakhtar Donetsk to suggest he can be a success in his new role and so City are expected to win in typical style here.
