A clean sweep of England’s three major trophies in a single season has never been achieved, but Manchester City are set to make history by completing the treble this weekend.

The Quadruple has eluded Pep Guardiola’s side, who lost to Tottenham in the Champions League quarter-finals, but they captured the Carabao Cup in February and last Sunday gained the victory at Brighton they needed to retain the Premier League title.

Now, all that stands between City and three pieces of silverware is victory against Watford, who have reached their second ever FA Cup Final after finishing runners-up to Everton in 1984 when their most famous supporter, Elton John, famously shed tears in the stand.

City have not lifted the FA Cup since 2011 and were the victims of a huge upset two years later when Ben Watson memorably headed home a last-gasp winner from a corner for Wigan, so they cannot afford to take the Hornets lightly.

However, this City side are a better team than the 2013 version and the fact they despatched Brighton so readily 4-1 last weekend, despite a brief scare, to see off Liverpool’s dogged league challenge should have banished much of the pressure they may have been feeling.

Watford may just have been saving themselves for a big push at Wembley following three defeats to end their league campaign, but the best we can see them achieving is a consolation goal with City set to establish themselves as the most dominant team of any English season.
