Manchester City vs Tottenham Predictions
Manchester City are favourites to retain the Premier League title once again this season. Having been pushed so hard by Liverpool last term, the Citizens still managed to get their hands on the title and there is a general consensus that they will do so again this term. It isn’t hard to see why either as under Pep Guardiola City have progressed incredibly and can now be counted among the very best teams in world football.
After kicking off the campaign with a Community Shield victory over Liverpool on penalties, the Citizens travelled to the capital last weekend and started the Premier League season with a thumping 0-5 victory over a hapless West Ham United. They have a fine record against Tottenham Hotspur in recent years, winning five of their last six meetings with the Londoners, so it’s no surprise that they’re favourites again here at 7/20 with William Hill.
Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to close the gap between themselves and the likes of City and Liverpool in the Premier League last season. Having finally moved into their new home towards the end of the last campaign and having invested in the playing squad with exciting new additions like Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele this summer, Spurs fans are hoping their team can finally start to turn the promise of this squad into some silverware.
Having lost out in the Champions League finally at the hands of Liverpool last season, the Lilywhites will be challenging for trophies on all fronts this season but they were made to work hard to pick up three points in their opening league game of the campaign last week. Having been a goal down at half-time though, Mauricio Pochettino’s men came back to win 3-1 against Aston Villa – can they now cause a shock at the Etihad at odds of 8/1 with Unibet.
We’re backing Spurs to get on the scoresheet here. Even with the likes of Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min missing, Spurs can still call upon star man Harry Kane, who bagged a brace against the Villains last weekend as well as the likes of Lucas Moura. City are clearly the stronger team and we expect them to pick up three points in front of their own fans, but their defence may struggle with Tottenham’s pace on the counter-attack. The home win and both teams to score bet is available at Coral.
Raheem Sterling started the new Premier League season with a bang, racking up a hat-trick in the Citizens’ thumping win over West Ham United at the London Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s attacking style offers Sterling chance after chance to get on the scoresheet and he was arguably the star man in the Spanish manager’s title-winning side last term. We’re backing him to get on the scoresheet again here at 11/10 with PaddyPower.
