Manchester City vs Port Vale Match Preview
Manchester City look increasingly unlikely to repeat their domestic treble of last season, but the cup double is still on and they are fully expected to cruise past Port Vale.
With every Liverpool win in the Premier League, the more remote City’s chances are of retaining that title – yet they still have the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup to go at in the hope of starting the 2020s in the same way they spent much of the last decade.
The draw has been kind to Pep Guardiola’s side, giving them a home tie against a League Two club 75 places below them in the English football pyramid and whose main target this season will be to qualify for the play-offs in the fourth tier.
John Askey, who guided Macclesfield Town into the Football League, is the Port Vale manager and he is doing a decent job having made the Stoke-on-Trent club difficult to beat and especially at home.
In saying that, the Valiants won both of their previous FA Cup ties this term on the road at MK Dons and Cheltenham Town, while they have lost away only once since mid-October.
That will surely become twice, however, this weekend, and although Guardiola is likely to name a stronger side for the first leg of the Manchester derbv Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday, the team he sends out here will surely be much too strong for Port Vale.
