Manchester City vs Leicester City Match Preview
This could be the Premier League title clincher depending on the result of Liverpool’s match at Newcastle on Saturday – but either way, Manchester City are expected to win comfortably.
The only way Pep Guardiola’s side can wrap up a fourth title in eight years on Bank Holiday Monday is if Liverpool have lost on Tyneside (result not known at the time of writing).
But although Leicester have been in strong recent form, Jamie Vardy in particular (see stats above), and their head-to-head record against City is creditable in the last few years, it is difficult to see anything other than the reigning champions being in complete control of their own destiny heading into their final match of the season away to Brighton next Sunday.
Crystal Palace are the only Premier League visitors to have avoided defeat at the Etihad this term, winning 3-2 just before Christmas when City had their only minor wobble of the campaign – which also comprised two failures to win at Leicester either side of that loss.
However, the stakes are so high now that another such upset is unthinkable because, certainly on the domestic front if not in the Champions League, Guardiola’s men are so reliable when the pressure is on them.
Leicester have won five of their eight games under Brendan Rodgers but we cannot see the Foxes manager giving his former club Liverpool a helping hand here.
