Manchester City vs Cardiff City Match Preview
Cardiff City were done a huge injustice on Sunday, but have a mountain to climb if they are to claw back the points they lost when they travel to title-chasing Manchester City.
The Bluebirds were on course for a shock victory at home to Chelsea when referee’s assistant Eddie Smart failed to spot a blatant offside for Cesar Azpilicueta’s 84th-minute equaliser, and that gave the Londoners the momentum to snatch a late 2-1 win of their own.
Grievance usually inspires a wounded team to try and make amends in their next game, but for Cardiff it could not be more difficult against a Manchester City side whose home form this calendar year has been magnificent (see stats above).
The only hope for Neil Warnock’s relegation-threatened outfit is that Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will rest players during a busy spell that has also included international and European football, plus an FA Cup semi-final coming up on Saturday against Brighton.
With Sergio Aguero having asked to be substituted against Fulham at the weekend due to a fitness concern, he is unlikely to be risked and so his natural replacement as striker, Gabriel Jesus, is backed to open the scoring following his recent two-goal salvo for Brazil in Prague.
