Manchester City vs Brighton Match Preview
Manchester City are looking to secure an unprecedented quadruple of trophies this season. No team in the history of English football has ever managed to win the EFL Cup, the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League but as things stand the Citizens have already picked up the EFL Cup, are through to the quarter finals of the UCL, in a tight title race with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table and this weekend face Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Prior to Wednesday night’s Premier League clash versus relegation strugglers Cardiff City at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s men have won their last 12 matches in all competitions and they appear to be hitting their stride at the perfect time of the season which could spell trouble for a Brighton side that have lost their last three matches against the North-West outfit. They’re unsurprisingly the favourites at Wembley at odds of 1/7 with Bet365.
Brighton & Hove Albion have been battling against relegation again this season but look set to beat the drop out of the Premier League. The Seagulls are only in their second ever Premier League campaign and so are still getting to grips with life at the top table which can sometimes lead to inconsistency in their results and indeed they’ve struggled on the road all season, although they have won three of their last four away fixtures.
Two of those fixtures came in this competition, the FA Cup, against Championship opposition and it’s been far from an easy ride to this stage for Chris Hughton’s men. A 3-1 win over Bournemouth in Round Three was followed up by a win over West Bromwich Albion following a replay and a victory over Derby County in Round Five. In the Quarter Finals they needed a last minute equaliser plus penalties to overcome Millwall – can they now pull off a shock at Wembley at odds of 22/1 at PaddyPower?
For our money though the Citizens will be too strong for their opponents in this game. The City juggernaut is in full flow at the moment and they’ve swatted many teams aside with ease of late which is hardly surprising given the firepower in their squad. With the Seagulls having to go chasing the game when they go behind the Blues attack should find it easy to pick them off on the counter-attack so we’re backing City -2 at odds of 6/5 with PaddyPower.
Raheem Sterling has gone from strength to strength as an attacking player under the guidance of Pep Guardiola and he is particularly impressive in front of goal now. The 24 year old has racked up no fewer than 19 goals for his club already this season in all competitions and his confidence will be sky high after four goals in two games for England during the international break. He’s evens to score at any time in this one at Bet365.
