Manchester City vs Wolves Match Preview
Manchester City have been denied points twice still early in the new campaign and now sit five points behind convincing pace-setters Liverpool as they host Wolves for their Matchday 8 clash on Sunday, having regained consistency and bagging their fifth win in a row as they beat Dinamo Zagreb (2-0 in Champions League) midway through the week.
Citizens have been rather convincing themselves as they beat Shakhtar Donetsk (0-3), Watford (8-0), Preston (0-3), and Everton (1-3) since mid-September, which should have them just as confident now. Pep Guardiola could have injury woes on his hands, though, with Kevin De Bruyne joining Leroy Sane, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte on the sidelines.
Wolves will hope this will mean a less stable midfield and they come with hopes of an upset, looking for their first win in Manchester since 1999. They have regained their great team spirits it feels, finally connecting a three-match winning streak across competitions and getting ground to build on.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men saw a tough start to the campaign but have beaten Reading (on penalties after a 1-1 draw), Watford (2-0), and Besiktas (0-1) in three very narrow occasions now behind them. They will surely prove a tough side to outclass but fatigue could play a role with a busy schedule behind them.
We will back Man City to take advantage of their depth and bag all three points here but we don’t feel it will be smooth sailing on the day, as we now go for them to win by a one-goal Winning Margin at an eye-catching 10/3 with Paddy Power.
Still, we feel a lot will depend on Wolves’ ability to cope in the final third and we thus hope to see them making it on the scoresheet as well, where going for a Yes on Both teams to score feels like the best approach to the fixture at 6/5 with William Hill.
