Man City v Chelsea Match Preview
Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table in midweek with an away win over Everton. The Citizens were expected to romp to another Premier League title this season after their record-breaking campaign last term saw them secure Pep Guardiola’s first Premier League trophy, but instead they find themselves in a real title scrap this time around with Tottenham Hotspur and more pertinently Liverpool, who are likely to have leapfrogged them by Sunday with a home win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Having slipped up to unexpected defeats to Crystal Palace, Leicester City and more recently Newcastle United, this season hasn’t been as plain sailing as hoped, but the Citizens are now odds-on favourites again for the title and they remain in both the Champions League and both domestic cup competitions at this stage of the season. After the confidence-boosting victory over Everton on Wednesday evening they’re odds on to pick up another three points here at 8/15 with BlackType.
Chelsea started the campaign looking like potential title challengers of their own after a blistering start to the campaign under Maurizio Sarri. The Italian boss led his side to a 12 game unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign and led to many pundits to believe the Blues could mount a charge for the top spot this season, but since then the Londoners have tailed off somewhat and with Tottenham and Manchester United in good form, they face a fight for a top four finish at best now.
After losing their last three away matches in all competitions including a 4-0 thumping at the hands of AFC Bournemouth in their last away trip, Sarri’s men may have regained some confidence following a 5-0 hammering of Huddersfield Town last weekend. As recent form seems to be unpredictable at best, a trip to the reigning champions may not be coming at the best time for Chelsea here but you can back them to upset the odds and do Liverpool a huge favour by winning this one at 6/1 with Betfair.
The Blues have particularly struggled in front of goal in their recent away games and although they racked up five goals in their last Premier League outing, that was against bottom of the table Huddersfield and on the road they have drawn blanks whilst losing their last three matches. City on the other hand kept a clean sheet at Everton in midweek and have conceded just once in their last five matches at the Etihad Stadium. That’s why we’re backing the home win to nil at odds of 9/5 with BetVictor.
Gabriel Jesus may not be enjoying his most prolific form so far this season, but he has found the net twice in his last four games including the second goal in Wednesday’s away clash with Everton to wrap up the points in that one. The 21 year old will be hoping to kick on and add more to his tally here and we think he may manage that, even if he isn’t likely to start the game. Odds of 5/4 are available on a Jesus goal at any time with Ladbrokes.
