Malmo v Chelsea Match Preview
Scandinavian sides have struggled to make an impact in European football in recent years but Malmo FF are looking to put those struggles behind them this season and have performed well so far. After unfortunately going out of the Champions League on away goals to MOL Vidi, they lost just once in the group stages to finish second behind Genk and ahead of a well-fancied Besiktas team to progress to the knock-out stages of the Europa League.
With the domestic Swedish season ending in November and not starting again until next week, Himmelsblatt have not played any competitive football since the culmination of the group stages back in December and they will have been disappointed to have finished in 3rd place in the Allsvenskan last term. A win against Chelsea would go down in history for the club and you can back them to get it here at odds of 17/2 with Betfair.
Chelsea started the season looking like potential Premier League challengers after a terrific first few weeks under Maurizio Sarri. Now however, it appears as though the Italian seems to be going through the usual cycle of managers at Stamford Bridge as he has faded away following a promising start. Despite being through to the EFL Cup final and the knock-out stages of the Europa League their current league position of sixth is disappointing.
With Manchester United and Arsenal leapfrogging them in the table in recent weeks fans are starting to grow tetchy, particularly after their last two away matches have ended in 4-0 and 6-0 defeats to Bournemouth and Manchester City respectively and fans and players alike will perhaps now be looking forward to this Europa League clash as a welcome distraction and they’re odds-on favourites to pick up an away win in the first leg at odds of 4/11 with Betway.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be hoping for some game time in this Europa League clash. The attacking midfielder has often be granted game time in the cup competitions after being limited in the Premier League and despite these limited opportunities he has managed to find the net six times so far this term including three in the Europa League. We’re backing him for another goal in this game at odds of 14/5 with Unibet
