Mali vs Ivory Coast Match Preview
Ivory Coast have been denied the top spot in Group D by a rather confident Morocco, suffering a loss to the table-toppers but still making their way to the knockout stages on the back of wins over South Africa (1-0) and Namibia (1-4) where Gradel, Die, Zaha, and Cornet all made it on the scoresheet.
Elephants have thus secured a great confidence booster and will now have a lot to build on as they meet Mali for their 8th Finals clash, regardless of goals conceded in both of their last two outings. They’ve suffered just one loss in seven head-to-head clashes against Mali, which will have them hoping to keep dominating.
Mali come into the match after topping the Group E and keeping up a three-match unbeaten streak, where they beat Mauritania (4-1) and Angola (0-1) as well as held Tunisia to a 1-1 draw. They’ve been conceding goals on the regular and this could be more worrying ahead of the contest.
Eagles struggled to pick it up through their pre-tournament friendlies and this will be more of a worry for Mohamed Magassouba, as his men look to reminiscent success from back in 2012 and 2013 (when Mali bagged the 3rd spot led by Seydou Keita). Getting past Ivory Coast should prove too much of a task for them, though.
We will thus stick with Ivory Coast to get through to the Quarter-finals in more of a thriller than many would suggest, as we back them to win at 5/4 with Coral in hope they can put on a similar display we’ve seen just days ago from them.
We do feel we’re in for goals and they should be forced to outgun the rivals to make their way past them, as we now also go for a high-scoring clash somewhat unconventional for Africa Cup of Nations with Over 2.5 Goals FT at 21/10 with bet365 – which seems great value for those hoping to see a winner in the regular time.
