Maldon & Tiptree vs Newport Match Preview
After edging past Grimsby Town (2-0) in a replay of their FA Cup clash last week, Newport travel to Isthmian League North Division rivals Maldon hoping to build on the success and make their way to the 3rd round with a confident display at Wallace Binder Stadium.
Exiles have struggled for consistency, though, and this will be more worrying for the travelling fans. They’ve seen Oldham (0-1) snatch all three points at Rodney Parade but struggles to impress away from home have been very obvious, with no two same results on the records this term. They’ve outclassed Cheltenham (4-7) in EFL Trophy last time out and Michael Flynn will hope for a similar quest now.
However, Maldon have enjoyed a great spell early in the new campaign and not only did they make it to FA Cup 2nd Round, but they sit a point behind the league pace-setters Bury Town with two games in hand and promotion looks very real at this point. We thus expect a side very motivated to impress against the League Two rivals.
They have seen Enfield Town (4-3) end their seven-match unbeaten streak in a seven-goal thriller last week, which will give them a lot to prove now. They beat Leyton Orient (1-2) with goals from Danny Parish and Jorome Slew in FA Cup already, as Jammers surely hope for another upset now.
We don’t feel they’ll be able to make their way past Newport but we still hope to see them show their character now as well, sticking with them to win with Asian handicap +1.5 at 8/9 with Paddy Power – which seems like a great approach to the fixture.
We do feel we’re in for goals and Maldon will have to cope in the final third if they’re to make it happen. We’ll thus also go for a Yes on Both teams to score, which comes at 11/10 with bet365 and has caught the eye of many in the know as well.
