Lyon v PSG Match Preview
Lyon finished third in the Ligue 1 table last year and once again that’s where they find themselves with 22 games played in the current campaign. With PSG dominating the French top tier and flexing their considerable financial muscle to do so, the likes of Lyon and Lille have had to make do with simply being their closest challengers and qualifying for the Champions League, which les Gones will be hoping to do this season.
A hugely important victory over arch-rivals Saint-Etienne seemed to make their top three spot more comfortable, and Bruno Genesio’s men have followed that win at Stade Geoffrey Guichard with back-to-back wins over Amiens SC in both the Coupe de France and Ligue 1 so they can head into this with a degree of confidence on the back of some decent results, but the away win does seem unlikely at odds of 58/19 with Unibet.
PSG’s dominance of French football has been well-documented over the last few years and after Monaco’s shock title win two seasons ago, les Parisiens have pumped even more money into their quest to not only dominate French football but also to make an impression in Europe. Although Champions League glory has managed to evade them thus far, le PSG have racked up the domestic trophies and this campaign could follow the same story.
After 20 games played, Thomas Tuchel’s men sit 13 points clear of second placed Lille with two games in hand and they have dropped just four points from a possible 60 so far, winning 18 of their league matches so far this season. With Neymar set for a spell on the sidelines they’ll be keen to send a message to the rest of the league that they aren’t about to let up in their fight to go the whole season unbeaten here by beating another of the league’s top sides away from home at 10/11 with Betway.
Although this is one of PSG’s more difficult league fixtures we can’t see them slipping up here. In the reverse fixture at Parc des Princes, les Parisiens hammered five goals in past les Gones and PSG have won their last four Ligue 1 games, scoring 17 and conceding just once in the process. Put simply, even without Neymar it’s clear that Tuchel’s side are the stronger of the two and we expect them to win this one by more than one goal at 85/40 with BetVictor
Edinson Cavani may not be the biggest name in this PSG squad with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe often grabbing the headlines ahead of him, but the Uruguayan continues to be a trustworthy goal threat as the spearhead of that magnificent attack at Parc des Princes. The former Napoli man bagged a brace in the win over Rennes meaning he has now scored 20 times this season in all competitions including seven in his last four outings so we’re backing him for a goal in this one too at 15/16 with Unibet.
