Luton vs Doncaster Match Preview

Luton Town are expected to win promotion back into the Championship from their current position in the League One table. The Hatters currently sit top of the table with a five point gap over second placed Barnsley and seven points clear of Sunderland in third. Given that they were in non-league not too long ago and only won promotion into the third tier from League Two last season this is a remarkable achievement for the Bedfordshire outfit.

Despite losing Nathan Jones to Stoke City as manager earlier in this season, Luton have now extended their unbeaten run in the league to an incredible 25 games with club legend Mick Harford continuing the good times as the club’s interim manager until the end of the campaign. After being held to a 2-2 draw with struggling Gillingham last time out we’re backing the league leaders to bounce back and pick up all three points here at 5/6 with PaddyPower.

Doncaster Rovers will have been hoping to find themselves in the play-off picture at least this season and that’s where they find themselves at the moment. Manager Grant McCann has built a talented young squad at the Keepmoat Stadium and as things stand they sit in the final play-off spot, although with a huge gap between themselves and fifth placed Charlton and a much smaller gap between themselves and the likes of Coventry and Peterborough who are hot on their heels.

However, that gap has got smaller and smaller in recent weeks as Rovers have struggled to find the kind of form that put them in the higher reaches in the table in the earlier stages of the campaign. Coming into this game, McCann’s charges have not managed a win in their last seven outings in all competitions going down in away defeats to strugglers Shrewsbury and AFC Wimbledon in that run – making a win here at 15/4 with Bet365 seem unlikely.

Donny have struggled going forward in this run, failing to score in matches against Barnsley and Crystal Palace and managing to find the net just twice in their last five outings altogether. The Luton backline has unsurprisingly been strong all season though and has helped them to establish a dominant position at the top of the table. The Hatters have kept three clean sheets in their last four games so a home win to nil looks good here at 21/10 with Bet365.

Jack Stacey may not be the most obvious goal threat in this Luton outfit, but the midfielder has found the net in his last two outings for the Hatters against Bradford City and Gillingham. Whilst the likes of James Collins and Danny Hylton are considered bigger threats in front of goal, odds of 17/2 from PaddyPower for Stacey to make it three from three here look like good value to us.
