Liverpool vs Sheffield United Match Preview
Liverpool have been in great shape and they top the Premier League table with a 13-point gap behind them and a game in hand to 2nd placed Leicester as they host Sheffield United for their Matchday 21 clash on Thursday evening. They ended the year with an important 1-0 win over Wolves, where a single goal from Sadio Mane late in the first half made all the difference despite a very exciting occasion.
Reds are now 50 games unbeaten at Anfield and we’ve seen them bag 27 wins in 28 league outings since March, which has many rating a Home win here banker bet material. They’ve been very confident at the back lately and while the clean sheet was only kept by VAR denying Pedro Neto on Sunday, it also came as their sixth in eight games across competitions.
Sheffield United have made a great impact and sit just two points behind 5th placed Man United but they’ve seen a four-match unbeaten streak ended by Man City (2-0) on Sunday and bouncing will be just as tough. They saw Watford (1-1) snatch a point at Bramall Lane beforehand too, which makes a top 5 challenge even tougher.
Blades beat Norwich (1-2), Aston Villa (2-0), and Brighton (0-1) beforehand and we’ve seen them solid at the back, where Chris Wilder surely wants to be tough to play against. One goal made all the difference between the sides in Sheffield back in late September and putting on a similar challenge will be the goal now.
We don’t see them causing an upset, though, and we’ll now rather back Liverpool to bag another win in a row. We’ll thus go for a Home win & Under 3.5 Goals FT, which feels like the best approach to the fixture at Evens with Paddy Power.
We feel Reds have been very steady at the back and this should be the case now as well, which serves as further evidence for such a bet. We thus hope to see another clean sheet at Anfield too and we’ll back it at 4/5 with William Hill.
