Liverpool will wrap up top spot in Champions League Group E if they maintain their imperious home record with victory over Napoli on Wednesday.

As the stats above outline, the Reds have not been beaten on their own pitch since losing to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup in September 2018 and only Arsenal, in the same competition, have avoided defeat when visiting Fortress Anfield this season.

But the only time Jurgen Klopp’s side have lost this term was away to Napoli, where they were also felled in last season’s Champions League group stage, so this is unlikely to be a walkover for the Premier League leaders.

Although Liverpool are carrying all before them, there is a worry for Klopp in that his team have gone 10 matches without a clean sheet. In their last 14 games they have won by more than one goal only three times, so they are mostly grinding out their victories – which is a sign either of real character or a side that is riding its luck somewhat.

In terms of the Group E picture, Liverpool will finish top if they win this game while Napoli would also be through should Red Bull Salzburg fail to beat Genk.

Napoli’s recent form has been poor with five draws and a defeat in their last six matches, causing the club’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis to punish the players with fines and extra training, and a recent lack of goals for them means Liverpool may just add that elusive clean sheet to the three points here.
