Liverpool vs Everton Predictions

Liverpool were simply phenomenal in 2019 and started the new year off in the perfect fashion on Thursday night with a 2-0 home win over Sheffield United. That victory leaves the Reds a massive 13 points clear at the top of the table, having not lost any of their last 36 competitive fixtures in all competitions at Anfield in a run stretching all the way back to an EFL Cup defeat at home to Chelsea in September of 2018.

With that first league title in 30 years seemingly on the horizon plus a campaign to retain the Champions League trophy after they beat Tottenham in the final to lift ‘Old Big Ears’ for the sixth time in the club’s history back in June, the FA Cup may not be the highest priority for Jurgen Klopp and his side this season. Still, they will expect to extend their unbeaten run over Everton to 21 games with a win here at 21/20 with Ladbrokes.

Everton are looking to begin a new era under manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian boss has picked up six points from a possible nine since being hired as Marco Silva’s permanent replacement last month and given his track record, it has to be considered something of a coup for the Toffees but with money to spend on improving the squad, there is every chance that the blue side of Merseyside will have a much brighter future.

For this season though, the aim will now be to cut the gap between themselves and the top six, with many teams behind Liverpool struggling for consistency at the moment and also perhaps having a run in this competition. There won’t be any more difficult draws than the champions-elect away from home in Round Three, so if Everton can win here at 27/10 with William Hill they may fancy their chances of going all the way this year.

We do think the Reds will take all three points here but it may not be the easiest night. Everton did well against Manchester City despite eventually losing on New Year’s Day and we think that they’ll be slightly more organised defensively under Ancelotti than they were in the 5-2 league defeat they suffered at Anfield under Marco Silva last month. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in five of Liverpool’s last eight games – we expect the same here in another home win.

Although this is a derby match and tensions often flare when these two meet, that meeting last month was relatively mild by comparison with only three bookings collected between the two teams. Liverpool have the best record for picking up yellow cards this season in the Premier League, whilst Everton aren’t exactly a dirty side and sit in the middle of that particular table. As such, we can see another game with less than four cards shown at odds of 6/5 with William Hill.
