Liverpool have had the wake-up call they may just have needed in the Premier League title race and are expected to return to winning ways decisively against Bournemouth.

After a brilliant end to 2018 with eight straight victories, 2019 has not begun the same way for the Reds. They have won only two of their last six games and only scrambled over the line in those, by one-goal margins against Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Having drawn at home to Leicester, Monday night’s stalemate at West Ham must have made Liverpool fully realise that they will need to work very hard if they are to conquer Manchester City and end that agonising 29-year wait for an English league title.

But at least Bournemouth at home is an appealing next fixture for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have swept away the Cherries in their last three meetings and this is a ground where the south-coast club have only once avoided defeat, when drawing 2-2 the season before last.

Plus, Bournemouth’s current away form is really poor – they have lost eight in a row on their travels, including 2-0 last weekend at Cardiff.

It’s time for Liverpool to provide a response to their recent slips and we are backing them to be clear at the top of the table before City host Chelsea the following day.
