Liverpool vs Leicester Match Preview
Liverpool are hoping to finally end the long wait for a league title this season. The Reds were once the most decorated team in English football history, but since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, they have never once been able to lift the famous trophy despite rarely dropping out of the top three or four places in the final tables. As things stand, they sit atop the table in this season, four points clear of a Manchester City side who broke record after record in winning the trophy last season.
During the hectic festive period, Jurgen Klopp’s men did go down 2-1 to the Citizens in a vital top of the table clash at the Etihad Stadium and they were also knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolverhampton Wanderers, but back-to-back victories over Crystal Palace and Brighton in their last two games have seen normal service resumed. Three points here, as is expected to the Reds at odds of 1/4 with Unibet would be see their winning home run stretch to ten games in all competitions.
Leicester City are a club that find themselves in limbo since their famous Premier League title win a few short years ago. With expectations forever altered, the Foxes are never likely to reach those heady heights again and although they possess a strong team that are perhaps capable of challenging for the Europa League spots, fans have grown disillusioned by the style of football being offered by Claude Puel despite the team’s current position of ninth in the table.
The Frenchman may now be starting to worry about his future at the King Power Stadium as his side make the trip to table-topping Anfield on Wednesday night having lost four of their last five games in all competitions, including an embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of League Two Newport County. A win here would do the former Southampton man the world of good, but it seems highly unlikely at odds of 14/1 with Coral.
Liverpool may have the best defensive record in the Premier League but they were breached three times by Crystal Palace in their last home game. Against Leicester, they come up against a team that possess a real counter-attacking threat and despite losing their last three matches in all competitions, the Foxes have at least got themselves on the scoresheet in each game. As such, it makes sense to back the home win and both teams to score bet here at a very reasonable 2/1 with BlackType.
Roberto Firmino was on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture between these two teams at the King Power Stadium back in September. The Brazilian has found the net three times in Liverpool’s last two home fixtures in the Premier League, taking his overall tally to 11 goals in all competitions so far this season. We’re backing the 27 year old to score at any time on Wednesday night at odds of 6/5 with Ladbrokes.
