Ipswich are backed to show their best chance of progressing from this FA Cup tie has not already passed them by when they travel to face their League One rivals Lincoln.

The Tractor Boys are competing in the first round of the world’s oldest knockout competition for the first time in 63 years and the original match between these clubs ended 1-1 at Portman Road, with Lincoln taking the lead through Tyler Walker before Andre Dozzell equalised.

The clubs are yet to meet in the league this season and it is Ipswich who are in the much better shape to sustain a promotion challenge as they sit second in the table, three points behind leaders Wycombe with two games in hand.

Manager Paul Lambert has made the Suffolk-based side very solid at the back and difficult to beat, although he did rotate his team quite significantly for the first game against the Imps.

Lincoln began the campaign brilliantly with four straight wins, but they were already starting to tail off when manager Danny Cowley left to take over at Huddersfield and his successor, Michael Appleton, has been largely unable to stop the rot.

It’s now only three wins in 19 matches for Lincoln and even though the FA Cup will not be Ipswich’s top priority this term as they target an immediate return to the Championship, they are still fancied to come out on top in 90 minutes here.
