Lincoln City begin their quest for a third promotion in four seasons surely delighted that the Cowley brothers remain in charge of the team following another summer of speculation.

Danny Cowley and his brother Nicky have overseen Lincoln’s rise from the fifth tier to League One, via the FA Cup quarter-finals when still a non-League team, and unsurprisingly their achievements have attracted admiring eyes from plenty of other clubs.

Indeed, at one stage this summer Cowley was long odds-on for the West Brom job, but that did not happen and instead he remains at Sincil Bank aiming to get into the Championship by guiding the Imps there, rather than taking the leap with a new employer (for the time being at least).

After winning the League Two title by six points last term, Lincoln played most of their pre-season games against Championship sides and have had a quiet close-season of transfer activity, although they look to have unearthed an exciting prospect ready to be unleashed in 18-year-old American striker Jordan Adebayo-Smith.

But the return to League One after a 20-year absence could be spoiled by Accrington who ended last season in good form, enjoyed a terrific pre-season victory against a strong Marseille team and look to have made a fine signing in non-League striker Colby Bishop judging by what he has shown in Stanley’s warm-up games.

On the opening day of the season, taking short odds about teams can be a risky strategy and the value looks to be with the visitors here.
