Lille vs Valencia Predictions
Lille performed above expectations in Ligue 1 last season to secure second spot in the table behind Paris Saint-Germain and a return to Champions League football. Unfortunately however for supporters at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, performances in the competition haven’t exactly gone to plan so far as their side have lost their opening two matches, 3-0 away to Ajax and 1-2 at home to Chelsea.
Their struggles in Europe have perhaps contributed to a lack of consistency in the league too as les Dogues currently occupy seventh place and come into this Wednesday night fixture on the back of a four game winless run in all competitions and looking far less confident in their abilities than they did at any point last season. Can Christophe Galtier inspire a win here at 13/8 with PaddyPower to keep the European dream alive?
Much like their Wednesday night opponents, Valencia put a few poor seasons behind them to shock everyone and qualify for the Champions League last term under the guidance of manager Marcelino. That fourth placed finish didn’t really afford the 54 year old any time at the start of this season though and after one win in their first four games he was replaced by former Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielder Albert Celades.
It’s not exactly been plain sailing for the new boss thus far but they have lost only once in his first seven games in charge, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Ajax on the last Champions League matchday. Having already shocked the odds to beat Chelsea away from home on Matchday One though, Valencia are still in a fairly strong position and they could strengthen that position yet further with three points here at 7/4 with Betfair.
We’re backing a share of the spoils here and the bookmakers seem to agree that a draw is quite a likely outcome judging by how tight the odds are for either side to win. Lille may not have won in their last four games but two of those matches have ended level and they do have the home advantage having lost only one of their last six at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Valencia have already drawn three of their seven games under Celades, we’re backing them for a fourth here at Unibet.
Furthermore, we’re backing goals at both ends here. Both teams have found the net in Lille’s last four fixtures in all competitions and indeed Valencia have plenty of attacking quality having only failed to score in one of their last seven outings. Victor Osimhen already has eight goals to his name in all competitions for les Dogues this season whilst Celades can call upon the in-form Maxi Gomez, who has four goals in five La Liga starts since joining los Che. BTTS is priced at 4/5 with William Hill.
