Lille vs Montpellier Match Preview
Lille host Montpellier for their Matchday 25 clash on Sunday looking to build on their top 2 spot after extending the six-point gap to 3rd placed Lyon with a five-match winning streak in 2019. They’ve already bounced back from a disappointing Coupe de France exit in the hands of Rennes (2-1) with a 0-2 win at Guingamp and we now expect Christophe Galtier’s men in top shape once again.
LOSC have beaten Sochaux (1-0), Amiens SC (2-1), and Nice (4-0) in three home outings along the way and they are well aware how important consistency at Stade Pierre-Mauroy will come in their chase for the Champions League spots this term.
Montpellier sit fourth after 23 games played and have high stakes of their own with six sides breathing down their necks. While they come into the match on the back of a five-match unbeaten streak of their own, Michel Der Zakarian’s men earned just one win along the way – which will be more worrying at this point.
Indeed, La Paillade’s win over Caen (2-0) in late January was also their only in nine outings across competitions, struggling to score numbers of goals on the road. They’ve held off Nimes (1-1) and Monaco (2-2) in two February outings and we feel Lille should prove even more of a challenge on Sunday.
We will thus back the home side to secure all three points and going for Lille to win at Evens with Betway feels like great value despite a strong challenge looming, where Montpellier prove themselves a tough nut to crack time and time again.
We do feel LOSC will have to score goals and outgun the rivals to secure the points, though, and with that in mind – we’re now also backing Over 2.5 Goals FT at 7/5 with Coral. We’ve seen such occasions in three of Lille’s last four home outings and this looks like further evidence for such a bet.
