Lille vs Monaco Match Preview
Lille sit 2nd placed after 28 Ligue 1 games played and boast a seven-point gap to the 3rd placed Lyon as they host Monaco looking to build on rock-solid records in front of the home fans, surely hoping to build on the narrow wins over Dijon (1-0) and Saint-Etienne (0-1) in the last two outings.
LOSC have based success on tough displays at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and we’ve seen them beat Sochaux (1-0), Amiens (2-1), Nice (4-0), and Dijon (1-0), only held to a goalless draw by Montpellier along the way. Christophe Galtier has set up a tough line at the back and his men kept clean sheets on four of those occasions too, which promises a great challenge now as well.
Monaco have picked it up over the past month and we’ve seen them bag three wins and three draws in last six outings. However, they’ve still struggled to escape the relegation zone as Angers (2-2) and Bordeaux (1-1) denied them points over the past two weeks and this could be more worrying.
Les Monegasques have been scoring goals on the regular, though, and will want to keep it up in Villeneuve d’Ascq – having snatched all three points on both of their last two trips here. However, Lille have proven themselves a lot tougher side through most of this campaign and this should prove a great quest now.
We will thus back Lille to build on the point snatched in Monaco earlier this term and we’ll go for them to secure all three on the day, with a Home win priced at an enticing 5/4 with bet365.
We feel they’ll have to put on a tough defensive display and shut down the visitors’ attacking options to do so, as we also back a low-scoring clash with Under 2.5 Goals FT at 13/20 with Paddy Power.
