Leicester vs Arsenal Match Preview
Leicester City may still have a spot in Europe to fight for going into the final three games of the season. In what has been a season of inconsistency, the Foxes currently occupy a spot in mid-table but assuming that Manchester City overcome Watford as expected in the FA Cup Final next month, then finishing in seventh place in the table will be enough to gain qualification to the Europa League which they are still very much capable of achieving.
Since replacing the unpopular Claude Puel with Brendan Rodgers just a few short weeks ago, the club have started to play with more attacking freedom and with some success, having lost just one of their last six Premier League games to rise up to tenth place in the table and within three points of Wolves who currently occupy that coveted seventh spot. A dramatic point at West Ham last week will keep confidence high as they go in search of three points here at 17/10 with William Hill.
Arsenal are one of the teams involved in a pulsating battle for a top four finish this season. As we enter the final three games of the season, only six points separate Tottenham Hotspur in third place and Manchester United down in sixth, and after a week in which every one of those four teams have dropped points, the Gunners currently occupy fifth place, one point behind Chelsea in the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.
Having appeared to be in a commanding position a week ago, the Gunners have slipped to defeats against both Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last two matches to fall out of the top four spots but with three league games remaining – plus an upcoming Europa League semi-final against Valencia, Unai Emery will feel his side can still achieve their goal of returning to Europe’s top competition next year. A win here would go some way to helping achieve that goal at 8/5 with Bet365.
We’re backing goals in this game. 15 goals have been shared in the last three Premier League meetings between these two clubs and under Emery and Rodgers, both sides are always likely to be playing on the front foot. Leicester have failed to score in only one of their last ten matches in the Premier League whilst Arsenal have only failed to score in one of their last 14. There’s little value in just backing both teams to score but given how tight the bookies expect the game to be, backing the draw and both teams to score bet at 3/1 with with PaddyPower looks good to us.
Jamie Vardy continues to be the main attacking threat in this Leicester City outfit. The 31 year old was on the scoresheet in that 2-2 draw with West Ham United last weekend to take his seasonal tally to 16 in the Premier League. Having nearly joined Arsenal following the Foxes astonishing Premier League title win a few years ago, he’s been a thorn in their side throughout his time at Leicester, scoring against the Gunners on six occasions. He’s our anytime scorer pick at 11/8 with Bet365.
