Leicester City vs Wolves Match Preview
Wolves are just back from an arduous Europa League trip to Armenia and with a poor record at Leicester as well (see stats above), they look set for defeat in their opening domestic game of the season.
By the time this match kicks off, Wolves will have played three competitive fixtures already this term. They eased past Northern Irish team Crusaders 6-1 on aggregate in their opening European qualifier and then faced a completely different kind of continental test, away to Pyunik Yerevan, on Thursday (result not known at the time of writing).
However far they progress in the Europa League, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side do have one piece of silverware already secured – the Premier League Asia Trophy, which they won on penalties against English champions Manchester City in China last month.
They will hope to push up into the top six this season after finishing an excellent seventh in their first campaign after being promoted and the same is true of Leicester, who appear to be in the best shape they have been since their incredible title triumph of 2015-16.
Brendan Rodgers looks to have been an inspired managerial appointment at the end of February and despite selling Harry Maguire to Manchester United, the Foxes’ squad is stronger with the summer additions of Ayoze Perez, Youri Tielemans and, assuming it was completed before the transfer deadline, Dennis Praet.
Unbeaten in pre-season, wrapping up with a 2-1 victory against Champions League contenders Atalanta, Leicester have every reason to be optimistic about their prospects and are backed to begin the serious fixtures by beating their Midlands rivals.
