Leicester City vs Arsenal Match Preview
Unai Emery is feeling the heat as Arsenal manager – and defeat against Leicester would be a considerable blow to his hopes of remaining in the role.
The Spaniard is now vying for favouritism in the Premier League Sack Race market after four consecutive draws in all competitions plus various off-pitch problems, specifically regarding Mesut Ozil, Sead Kolasinac and the now replaced captain Granit Xhaka.
After the latest stalemate against Vitoria Guimaraes in the Europa League on Wednesday, when his team conceded a last-gasp equaliser, Emery gave a curt response to a question mentioning Jose Mourinho in connection with his job and is clearly pretty cheesed off just now.
The Gunners have fallen six points behind Leicester in the table and although there is a long way to go, a significant gap has already opened up between the top four and the rest – and the Foxes will be more than happy to be in the group that has pulled clear.
Very strong at home, especially in defence, Brendan Rodgers’ team have won seven of their last eight league and cup games and are unsurprisingly warm favourites here.
This is, therefore, a major test of whether Emery can revitalise Arsenal, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as captain, and one interesting point to note is that his side experienced a very similar spell this time last year – they drew three in a row and then won five out of six, with the only blot on that sequence being a highly creditable 2-2 draw at Manchester United.
Thus, it may be too early to write off Arsenal and Emery and at the odds available, we would prefer to keep them on side here and resist being undone too many times by the potent Leicester attack to ensure they head home with at least a point for their efforts – and possibly all three.
