Leganes vs Real Madrid Match Preview
Leganes are enjoying another season at the top table of Spanish football. Los Pepineros have spent the majority of their history in the lower divisions, but after winning promotion to the top tier for the first time in their history at the end of the 2015/2016 season, the side from the outskirts of Madrid have managed to establish themselves in the top tier, finish 17th in the last two seasons and being set for an even more comfortable finish this time around.
A run of three wins and a draw in their last four games leave Mauricio Pellegrino’s men looking solid in 11th place in the table and now they’ll be out to cause a famous upset against their illustrious neighbours. Having never managed to beat Real Madrid in a league fixture the odds are stacked against them once again here but you can back Leganes to end that run with three points in this game at 17/4 with Bet365.
Real Madrid have endured a disappointing first campaign following the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo. Having won four of the last five Champions League titles, los Blancos will be bitterly disappointed to have been knocked out of that competition by Dutch side Ajax in the Round of 16 stage and they’re out of the race for the La Liga title too, sitting in third position, 13 points behind arch rivals Barcelona with only seven games remaining.
Having struggled for form under both Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari earlier in the season, Madrid have now turned back to former manager Zinedine Zidane less than twelve months since he left the club under a cloud in the summer. Form has improved under Zizou so far though and los Vikingos have picked up four victories in their last five La Liga games. You can back them for another three points here at 13/20 with William Hill.
Although we’re backing Real for the victory at Butarque on Monday night, we do think the hosts will give them a game here. Los Pepineros actually managed to overcome los Blancos in the home leg of their Copa Del Rey tie earlier in the season and with the quality they’ve shown in front of goal in recent weeks, we fancy them to get on the scoresheet here. That’s why we’re backing the away win and both teams to score at odds of 5/2 with Bet365.
Karim Benzema may not have been able to reach Ronaldo levels of scoring this season, but the Frenchman has been a constant thorn in the side of La Liga defences. Having racked up four goals in his last three outings, including a brace in last weekend’s victory over Eibar, the 31 year old has now reached a tally of 26 goals in all competitions – we’re backing him to add another here at odds of 11/10 with PaddyPower.
