Leeds United vs Derby County Match Preview
Action resumes in England’s top two league divisions after FA Cup third-round weekend with a top-six clash in the Championship as leaders Leeds United aim to return to winning ways.
The Whites had been going great guns with a run of seven straight victories that established them at the top of the table, but since their Boxing Day success over Blackburn they have suffered a setback.
It’s now three consecutive defeats for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, in the league by two-goal margins against Hull and Nottingham Forest and then they exited the FA Cup at QPR.
Although Leeds’ first away match of the season resulted in a 4-1 triumph at Derby, it may not be so straightforward in the reverse fixture at Elland Road.
Derby manager Frank Lampard will have learned a lot about his young team since then for that was only his second competitive game in charge, and the former England midfielder has got his club into the play-off zone and with a chance of automatic promotion.
The Rams are only six points behind second-placed Norwich and, as the stats above reveal, they remain in good current form having fought back from 2-0 down to earn an FA Cup replay against Premier League team Southampton.
Whether the wheels are completely falling off for Leeds remains to be seen, but they are certainly no value at odds-on here and we are backing Derby to claim a point in a match that should contain at least a couple of goals.
