Kazakhstan vs Russia Match Preview
Russia take on a trip to Kazakhstan just days after their mid-week trip to Belgium, as they look to kick-start their EURO 2020 Qualifiers campaign and prove their worth after a very solid World Cup performance in front of the home fans last year.
Sbornaya have been tough to beat through most of their Nations League campaign too but saw the 2-0 loss at Sweden end their hopes to make it to League A, finishing behind the Scandinavian rivals with an equal number of points in the end. They’ve seen Germany (3-0) outclass them in a friendly beforehand and Stanislav Cherchesov now has to find a way to recuperate.
Kazakhstan have, on the other end, beaten Moldova (1-0) in their February friendly and ended a two-match winless streak. They’ve largely struggled for consistency through their Nations League D campaign and finished huge ten points behind Group 1 pace-setters Georgia, which will be just as worrying.
Hawks have proven themselves a tougher nut to crack in front of the home fans time and time again, which does promise a solid challenge in Astana. However, coping in a tough Group I will be very tough for them and we don’t see them snatching any points on Sunday afternoon.
We will thus back Russia to secure the important points in Kazakhstan and doing so at 8/13 with bet365 feels like a banker bet, as the visitors look to prove their worth as heavy favourites here.
Still, we don’t feel we’re in for a one-sided contest and we feel Kazakhstan will find the net as well, which has us going for a Yes on Both teams to score at 11/10 with William Hill. Russia have struggled to keep clean sheets on the road and we thus expect to see an exciting clash as they outgun the rivals to the points.
