Japan vs Chile Match Preview
Copa America title holders Chile meet Japan for their opening clash in Group C, looking to bag the important points and kick-start another successful campaign despite being rated outsiders to lift the Trophy once again – in what could be the last Copa for Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, Gary Medel, and many others.
La Roja will now hope they can impress and make a statement early on, having records of nine wins and a loss in the last ten Copa America outings to build on. However, they have struggled to pick it up more recently and only ended a two-match winless streak with a narrow win over Haiti, which will be more worrying for Reinaldo Rueda.
Japan have a three-match unbeaten streak behind them, on the other hand, having beaten Bolivia (1-0) and El Salvador (2-0) since March and holding Trinidad and Tobago to a goalless draw along the way. They’ve held clean sheets on all of those occasions and this promises Hajime Moriyasu’s men in a good mood.
Samurai Blue have seen only two losses in their last 16 outings and while one of those cost them the Asian Cup trophy (1-3 to Qatar), we feel they’ve now put it behind them and have what it takes for an upset early in the competition.
We will thus stick our necks out for it and back Japan to snatch at least a point, where a Double Chance – Draw or Japan to win comes at 2/1 with bet365 and looks like a lively longshot as Chile struggle for any consistency over the past year.
We thus feel we’re in for a narrow occasion and Japan will surely be very motivated to make their mark here, as we now also back a low-scoring contest with Under 2.5 Goals FT at 4/6 with Unibet – which has caught the eye of many keeping faith Samurai Blue can trouble the reigning champions.
