Jamaica vs Honduras Match Preview
Jamaica experience life as a CONCACAF Gold Cup co-host on Monday with two matches at their National Stadium in Kingston – and the home fans can see their team start with a win.
The Caribbean holiday island and Costa Rica have both been granted a group-stage double-header on Monday and the preceding day respectively, whereas the vast majority of this biennial tournament is taking place in the United States.
Group C begins with Curacao vs El Salvador and is followed immediately afterwards by the introduction of Jamaica, who have been installed as joint-fourth favourites to go one better than when runners-up in both 2015 and 2017, firstly to Mexico and then to the USA.
The Reggae Boyz, who have had Theodore Whitmore as their manager for seven of the last 10 years in two spells, recently enjoyed a morale-boosting 1-0 friendly success against the United States in Washington D.C with a Shamar Nicholson goal.
But Honduras have not won any of their last four matches and were left licking their wounds after a 7-0 drubbing in Brazil last Sunday which hardly served as the ideal preparation to lift confidence heading into a tournament.
With one of Honduras’ best players, Andy Najar of Anderlecht, having had to pull out of the squad due to injury, things appear not to be going the Central Americans’ way and so Jamaica are backed to kick off their campaign with a victory.
