Ivory Coast vs Algeria Predictions
The African Cup of Nations is really starting to heat up as we reach the Quarter Final stage and it has to be said that on paper, the Ivory Coast vs Algeria appears to be one of the more eye-catching matches of the four in this round. With pre-tournament favourites and hosts Egypt surprisingly dumped out in the Round of 16, these two former winners will feel they are capable of going all the way with just three games standing between them and glory.
The Ivory Coast were winners of the tournament four years ago but it’s fair to say that their squad has weakened somewhat in the intervening years with the likes of Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure and Gervinho having retired from international football since then. That said, they’ve still managed three wins from their four games at the tournament so far and have shown flashes of quality from a new generation of stars like Wilfried Zaha and Franck Kessie.
In the group stages, les Elephants were able to progress with relative ease, a 1-0 win over South Africa and a 4-1 thumping of Namibia book-ending a disappointing, narrow defeat at the hands of Morocco in their second fixture. A goal from Crystal Palace star Zaha was enough to earn Ibrahim Kamara’s men a 1-0 win over Mali in the Round of 16, can they now earn another win and a spot in the semis at 3.85 with Netbet?
Algeria have not won this trophy since 1990 but their current crop of players is as talented as they have had since that famous victory. Alongside Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez, head coach Djamel Belmadican also call upon the likes of Porto star Yacine Brahimi and highly-rated Nice youngster Youcef Atal and these players have been performing well in Egypt to earn a relatively uncomplicated route through to the final eight stage.
The Desert Warriors managed to secure top spot in their group with ease, picking up wins in all three of their matches against Kenya, Tanzania and now-favourites Senegal without conceding a goal and they were similarly confident in their first knock-out game, earning a 3-0 victory over Guinea to set up this quarter final. Can the Greens live up to their pre-game billing as 2.11 favourites with Hamabet.
We’re backing Djamel Belmadi’s men to secure the win here. Defensively, they have been unbeatable at this tournament so far with four clean sheets from four and we saw that Ivory Coast can at times struggle going forward against stronger sides in that defeat to Morocco. We’re backing the Desert Warriors to pick up a 1-0 victory at odds of 5.32 with Helabet but if you’re after something a little less risky then perhaps odds of 3.10 with Betway for Algeria to win to nil is a better bet.
